Translating (Japanese to English)

Yumi Nixon has a Ph.D in Psychology (University of York, 2004) and has worked as a freelance abstractor and translator in the social sciences for more than 10 years, principally with the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, University of York (CRD).  She has undertaken abstracting and translating work with Kleijnen Systematic Reviews Ltd (KSR) and several other clients. She has also taught Japanese at the University of York (Linguistics Department) for over 7 years.

Translation work from Japanese to English is submitted to us from clients in the UK and Japan.  In many instances a short turnaround period is requested and we are usually able meet tight deadlines for shorter projects.

For larger projects a longer period of 2-4 weeks is often negotiated.  Due to University teaching commitments, however, there may be periods of time each year when longer periods are required to undertake translation projects.

Some of our translation work is carried out within the context of a review of the literature whereby a number of papers are initially checked against the client's inclusion criteria. Data extraction and translation is then carried out on papers required for inclusion.

The benefit of having internal proof reading capacity after translation means that the end product will require very limited editing and formatting by the client.

Because of our medical writing skills clients may also request that various sections of a paper be drafted by us, which will then be refined and converted into a final product in collaboration with clients.

Please see our links page to gain an overview of some of the clients we have worked with over the years.
